The purpose of language coding is not to provide scientifically-accurate linguistic documentation but rather to meet user needs for metadata elements in language-related applications.

What I don't want is to have some ISO-member body deciding they dislike something that has been done that they consider within their purview strongly enough to complain to ISO and, eventually, tip over the whole apple cart. I can't see how you would be negatively impacted if somebody else gets something they feel they need even if you think it's not needed.
