Bengali vs. Bangla

We had the same request regarding the names.

Similar things have happened in several locales (languages or countries) where native speakers have decided that the English form of the name should be basically the same as the native form of a name rather than a word that they feel was invented by someone else and imposed on them externally.

In theory it seems to me that folks should be able to use whatever name they want, and to ask standards like ISO to respect those requests.  In practice that isn’t always simple though.
