This is not true for the Karrharder dialect, since the short form
("karr") would be too short.

I would suggest either noting this exception ("...omitting the
'harder', unless that would result in a name that is too short for a
variant subtag" or the like), or (my preference) removing the
explanation from this record altogether, since it's not particularly
connected to the "wieding" subtag in particular but rather to all of
them in general.
