I would like it if someone would declare all discussion of what Mac OS X
does or does not do with 'no', from the standpoint of locale
identification, irrelevant to the topic of whether the variant
'hognorsk' should have "no" or "nn" or anything else as its Prefix
field. If you want to debate the OS X thing, please change the Subject
field.
We do not register variants or assign them prefixes to strongarm Apple
or Microsoft or anyone else into "fixing" their locale identification
systems. They are pretty much going to do what they are going to do in
that regard. As I said earlier, the Language Subtag Registry shows
suitable descriptions for 'no' and 'nb' and 'nn'. Anyone who chooses to
make additional assumptions about what these subtags mean, Apple or CLDR
or anyone, is pretty much on their own.
I support giving 'hognorsk' a single Prefix field, "nn", and anyone who
feels it should also have "no" should make their case in the context of
*content identification*, without dragging in the Mac OS X
locale-selection user interface.
