Anyway, even if the old-timers are (and feel) culpable, why does
that disqualify them? Repairing one's past mistakes is supposed to be
a virtue.

I find this whole line of discussion worrying. If applied recursively,
it contaminates everyone on this mailing list; if we weren't part of the
problem, we wouldn't be here.
