I don't know what IETF you are working in, but...

I am not (for another two weeks) over 40, nor am I a "boy", but
I do think that I have been accepted into the "inner circle" of
the IETF -- whatever that means.

I did find it difficult to get established in the IETF as a newbie,
but that difficulty was not (IMO) related in any way to my age
or gender.
