I made this registration on behalf of Amir Aharoni who raised it on the Wikimedia Foundation Language Committee list. (I am also a member of that committee.)

Yes, for instance als.wikipedia.org (which should be for Tosk Albanian) is being changed to gsw.wikipedia.org (for Swiss German).

"This will lead to en-wpsimple.wikipedia.org” is what they want to do with simple.wikipedia.org because they want to follow standards better than they have in the past.
