Wikipedia tagging

Can anyone explain why it is that Wikipedia is tagging Simplified Chinese content as simply ¡°zh¡±?

There are exceptions where ¡°zh-Hans¡± or ¡°zh-Hant¡± are used. E.g., this sidebar in the English-language article on ¡°Chinese language¡± (here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language):

Chinese languages (Spoken)

Traditional Chinese<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Chinese_characters>

hÕZ

Simplified Chinese<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simplified_Chinese_characters>

ººÓï

But pages that are in Simplified Chinese (at least, all in the small sample I looked at) have in their html tag,

lang="zh"

That¡¯s not good practice and will lead to users encountering buggy behaviour (e.g., content being displayed using the wrong fonts).
