Language Variant subtags for Sanskrit

I said as much several days ago, but nobody seems to have noticed.

Historic language varieties are candidates for encoding in ISO 639-3.

It seems to be treated as a separate language by LinguistList:

which would imply that the thing to do might be to apply for an ISO 639-3 code for it??
