Here is the third group of changes to the Registry based on recent ISO
639-3 actions. These are taken from the first half (loosely speaking)
of the section "Retirements and creations from code element splits" in
the 639-3 Summary of Outcomes document.
These new subtags and deprecations are the result of requests to the RA
to split a language code element into two or more new code elements. In
some cases, one of the new language names is the same as the split one,
because the RA (like this group) seeks to avoid narrowing the denotation
of existing language code elements. (So Caló, for example, did not
"have its code changed" as some might believe; the new Caló has a
narrower meaning than the old one.) In other cases, the split was
denied and only a single new code element was added.
This batch of records and registration forms starts at the top of the
section and ends right before Latvian, which seemed like an
easy-to-recognize stopping point. The second half will be about 2/3 the
size of this batch. I'll send that one in a few days, after this group
has had a fair chance to send its Voluminous Feedback on the present and
prior batches. Ahem. (The amount of list feedback to prior batches has
been, shall we say, a bit underwhelming; only one person sent me a
correction (privately) to a typo in the first batch.)
