The same can be said of the facts of French usage, now that I have a
chance to take a look: there are some 370,000 Google hits for "langue(s)
des signes", and in addition about 2000 hits in Google Scholar, reflecting
learned papers and theses published and accepted by universities in France and
other parts of the Francophonie.  That at least shows that "une langue
des signes" is as good a "langue" as any other, and fully part of "le
langage humain".
