There's no problem with Alsatian, but using gsw-FR
to "emulate" a proper variant might be problematic
for various reasons already noted here.  

We have subdivisions of sl-rozaj and we have boont,
we can afford to register Alsatian for more than
500,000 speakers.  Relevance is not only a question
of the population, but in this case it's "obvious"
from my POV.
