Although on a personal level I share your opinion, on a practical level it 
is unrealistic.  The temper of today's times mandates spending the 
ridiculous amount of time being nice to time-wasters and other warm fuzzy 
(and utterly non-productive) activities.

IETF is simply responding to a global trend.  This is a symptom, not the 
disease.
