ISO 639 RAs-JAC has approved the following item:

alpha-3 identifier: ain
(no alpha-2 identifier assigned)

English name: Ainu
French name: aïnou
Indigenous name: ainu

The language is spoken in Japan. A different language by the same (English) name is spoken in China. That language is not covered by the new identifier.

Best regards,
Håvard Hjulstad
(ISO 639 RAs-JAC secretary)
