Unfortunately many people write only a domain name in floating text (body of an email etc), and people (humans) understand because of context that it is a URI, and an http-uri in fact. Or even only a partial domain name, and hope the search path in the resolver should do the trick.

Phew...if only domain names really existed as protocol elements, life would be so much easier...
