Q1 is mapping on lookup permanent or transitional?

The way I'd say that is, "In principle, the mapping will remain part
of the protocol forever, but in practice the mapping's use will
wither."  That's ok with me.  But it's not the same thing as saying
that part of the protocol is "only temporary".
