IAB/IESG retreat, October 17 & 18, 2002

Overview

The IETF is in need of change. There are a number of issues that have been raised by the community, and there are parts of the IETF procedures where our practice departs quite far from the theory envisioned in our documented procedures. At times, we worry that the standards we are producing for the Internet are not the right standards - either suffering from low quality, late delivery or irrelevance to the problems that our users see.

In order to achieve change, it is essential that the IAB and the IESG, being the IETF leadership, work well together.

The purpose of the retreat is to give the IAB and IESG members the opportunity to learn how to work together more effectively (in our respective roles) and work on some of the issues facing the community. We are geeks. We learn by doing. Let us do.

We shall proceed by focussing on a small set of topics, and find small cross-IAB/IESG groups to put together the preparatory work in advance.
