I agree with Thomas on humming, with a couple of notes:

- When I've seen humming done badly, it's usually been because
the hum questions are (1) poorly phrased, AND (2) made up "on
the fly", so that people hum for something they'll accept, and
then hum again because the chair put something better on the
table after the first hum.

- Writing down the choices, before we start humming, is critical
to a good hum!
