to make declarations about content or about user preferences on reference to one of these, then there's a legitimate need for these variant subtags. Andrew's requests pertain to exactly that.<br>

I thought the criterion was a desire to be able to tag variations. Not trying to argue whether this particular case is stable or not, but it does seem to have people that are interested in representing either.<br>
<br>
Even if it doesn't take traction, someone may still be interested in tagging documents that conformed to this orthography. (Like, for example, the word list itself).<br>
