In case this caused any confusion:

Region subtags in the Registry for individual countries are two letters,
unless there is a conflict in the use of ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code
elements, which has not occurred since the initial version of the
Registry.

Neither "8" and "56" nor "008" and "056" are, or will be, valid region
subtags.

Better examples would have been "South America is now 5 instead of 005,
and Eastern Asia is 30 instead of 030."
