I think the denoted variant is perfectly reasonable to add, but as mentioned, the syntax requires a longer subtag, even though "nfld" is a conventional abbreviation for Newfoundland. What about "nflnd"?

Nfld is too short. It needs to be at least five letters (or four numbers) to make a valid subtag.
