This list is NOT permitted to do such a thing, silently or otherwise, 
and I will continue to fight hard against this or any similar proposal 
that violates the rules of registration.

If you and others feel so strongly about this, please petition your 
National Body to lobby UNSD to assign a numeric country code to the 
European Union, and then get them to lobby ISO 3166/MA to add 
corrresponding alpha-2 and alpha-3 code elements.  That's what Debbie 
did with Guernsey and Jersey and Isle of Man -- at least the ISO part, 
that is.
