RFC3066bis: looking ahead

If you read my message again... you will note I made no reference to ISO
639-6... This coding system will be ready this year and will be put to the
ISO Working group (from BSI) as the proposal for ISO 639-6... I personally
see no reason why it will not be adopted... but that is for the committee...

As to implementation issues... I would welcome your thoughts and comments on
an alpha4 system...

Debbie

ISO 639-6 is not even an approved work item, but you're already assuming
it will get incorporated into some future version of RFC 3066. This
seems premature: the suggestion appears to be made in the absence of
adequate consideration of implementation issues, of which there are
several.

Nobody here knows yet what ISO 639-6 will be like (even assuming anyone
can be certain such a standard will eventually be published), so it is
impossible for anyone to evaluate at this point how it would integrate
with a successor to RFC 3066. One can't even say exactly what all the
implementation issues are that would need to be considered!
