I quite agree.
The questions I always ask of a proposed system:
* Is it overengineered?
* Does it make simple things simple?
* Does it make hard things possible?
* Are there sane defaults?
* Does it require the typical user to dance around for reasons that are
motivated only by rare cases?
* How many licks does it take?
