IETF AdminRest Homepage

Last Updated: 13-Feb-2005

This page attempts to capture the current state of the IETF Administrative Restructuring (AdminRest) effort.  This effort involves formalizing the administrative support activities of the IETF, as discussed in RFC 3716.  This page will be updated as the AdminRest activity evolves.

There seems to be IETF consensus on pursuing an AdminRest plan based on the "Scenario O" proposal.  "Scenario O" proposes that we organize the IETF Administrative Support Activity (IASA) as an IETF-controlled activity under the Internet Society (ISOC) legal umbrella.  Current AdminRest activities are focused on developing a "Scenario O"-based BCP proposal and preparing for the transition.

BCP Proposal

The proposal is currently captured in a proposed BCP that has been posted for publication as an Internet-Draft (draft-ietf-iasa-bcp-07.txt).  The latest version of this draft can be found in HTML format at: draft-ietf-iasa-bcp-07.html.

We are using an issue tracker to track comments and suggestions regarding the proposed BCP.  The issue tracker can be found at: https://rt.psg.com (userid: ietf, password: ietf, queue: iasa-bcp).

AdminRest IASA Transition Plan

The IASA Transition Plan describes the steps we will use to determine community consensus to pursue the "Scenario O"-based approach and handle the transition to the IASA as described in the proposed BCP.  The current AdminRest IASA transition plan has been captured in a separate web page.  The latest version of this plan can be found in HTML format here.

As part of the transition plan, a transition team has been set up. More details on the transition team.

Joint IAB/IESG Recommendation

The IAB and IESG have published a joint recommendation to pursue a Scenario O-based approach for IETF administrative restructuring.  This recommendation was also published as an Internet-Draft (draft-iab-iesg-adminrest-rec-00.txt).  The latest version of this draft can be found in HTML format at:  draft-iab-iesg-adminrest-rec-00.html.

This was formally adopted by the IESG on December 16, 2004.
